Doyobi Bags US$2.8 Million in Pre-Series A Funding Led by Monk’s Hill

Educational technology startup (edutech startup) Doyobi recently received US$2.8 million in Pre-Series A funding from investors led by Monk’s Hill Ventures.
Jakarta, TechnoBusiness ID ● Doyobi, an education startup (edutech) based on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and teacher development through a virtual learning environment from Singapore, has just received funding.

In today’s announcement, Doyobi has successfully completed a US$2.8 million Pre-Series A funding round from investors led by Monk’s Hill Ventures.
Corporate investors participating in the funding round include Tresmonos Capital, Novus Paradigm Capita, and XA Network.

Several angel investors such as Carousell co-founder and CEO Quek Siu Rui, Glints co-founders Oswald Yeo and Ying Cong, and Head of Grab Financial Group Reuben Lai also participated in the funding.
According to CEO and founder of Doyobi John Tan, the funds will be used to launch a new program of courses and group training with the aim of helping improve teacher skills.
“This initiative is to assist teachers in teaching by using STEM-based learning methods effectively and skills needed in the 21st century such as critical and creative thinking in the classroom,” said Tan.

Doyobi will also use the funds to support Teachers as Humans, an online community for teachers to get opportunities for each other to develop themselves professionally.

In Indonesia, currently Doyobi has partnered with several schools and educational institutions such as Leap Surabaya, Codercadamy, HighScope Indonesia, Mutiara Harapan Islamic School, and Stella Gracia School.
“Doyobi empowers schools to develop the computational thinking skills students need to solve future problems,” said HighScope Indonesia Chief Human Resources and Academic Development Officer Ilsa Nurina.
To achieve its goals, Doyobi also launched STEM School Leader, a membership program for leaders that focuses on STEM-based learning methods and 21st-century skills.

“Tan and his team’s approach of combining STEM-based learning methods and 21st-century skills will drive the education system forward,” said Peng T. Ong, co-founder and managing partner of Monk’s Hill Ventures.
To note, Doyobi was founded by John Tan with Prerna Gupta, Greg Ho, and Shawn Leong in 2020. In August 2020, Doyobi had successfully raised a pre-seed funding round from 10 investors led by 500 Startups and XA Network worth US$1 million.
That means that since its founding Doyobi has raised total funding of US$3.8 million. And, in working on the market, Doyobi entered developing countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Africa.●
