According to AMPD Media Partners Asia, Viu has become the video streaming service in Southeast Asia for the seventh consecutive quarter. In semester 1/2021, Viu was ranked second in terms of paid subscribers.

Based on company data, of all the regions it covers, Thailand and Indonesia are Viu’s largest markets with the fastest growth.

“The combination of data analytics and presence in the local market ensures we truly understand the pulse of the consumers in which we operate,” said Janice Lee, CEO of Viu and Managing PCCW Media Group.

The potential of the video streaming market in the world, including Asia Pacific, especially Southeast Asia, is enormous. Jeffrey Bahar, Group Deputy CEO of Spire Research and Consulting, said the market must continue to grow.

“In Southeast Asia, surely Indonesia will be the determinant of growth because it is the largest market with a fast adoption rate of digital technology,” he said.

Moreover, the market penetration of video streaming services in Indonesia is still low—which is still limited to big cities. “If it is evenly distributed, Viu’s market share from Indonesia is no joke,” said Jeffrey.
