Demi Kembangkan BlackBerry Spark, BlackBerry Akuisisi Cylance

Salah satu keuntungan BlackBerry dalam mengakuisisi Cylance adalah mempercepat pengembangan BlackBerry Spark.
Ontario, California, dan Jakarta, TechnoBusiness ● BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB; TSX: BB), perusahaan teknologi multinasional asal Waterloo, Ontario, Kanada, baru saja menyelesaikan proses akuisisi terhadap Cylance Inc. senilai US$1,4 miliar secara tunai.
Cylance merupakan perusahaan intelijen berbasis kecerdasan buatan (artificial intelligence) dan keamanan siber (cyber security) asal Irvine, California, yang didirikan pada 2012.

Berdasarkan catatan perusahaan, sampai saat ini Cylance telah memiliki pendapatan berulang dari sekitar 3.500 perusahaan, 20%-nya dari perusahaan-perusahaan besar yang tergabung dalam Fortune 500.
Penyelesaian proses akuisisi itu berlangsung sesuai rencana yang diumumkan pada 16 November 2018.
“Hari ini, BlackBerry telah mengambil langkah besar untuk menjadi perusahaan kecerdasan buatan dan keamanan siber terdepan dan tepercaya di seluruh dunia,” ungkap John Chen, Executive Chairman dan CEO BlackBerry Limited, Kamis (21/2).

BlackBerry mengakuisisi Cylance demi memenuhi ambisinya agar bisa membantu menghubungkan, melindungi, dan membangun endpoints yang aman bagi pelanggan.
Seperti diketahui, BlackBerry terkenal berkat keunggulan di bidang keamanan data. Kehadiran teknologi pembelajaran mesin (machine learning) dan kecerdasan buatan Cylance menjadi modal strategis bagi bisnis BlackBerry.
Teknologi kecerdasan buatan Cylance yang mudah dibenamkan (embeddable) juga akan mempercepat pengembangan BlackBerry Spark, platform komunikasi yang aman untuk mendukung Internet of Things.

“Dalam kesepatan ini, BlackBerry telah memperoleh teknologi keamanan canggih yang dapat digunakan untuk melindungi platform yang sudah ada serta perlindungan tambahan yang sejalan dengan visi pasar dan fokus pelanggan,” ungkap Brian Partridge, Research Vice President 451 Research.
BlackBerry melangkah secara pelan tapi pasti. “Setelah mendadak terkenal berkat ponsel pintarnya tapi tak berapa lama kemudian terjun bebas, BlackBerry berhasil bertahan dengan strategi-strategi yang tepat,” ujar Jeffrey Bahar, Group Deputy CEO Spire Research and Consulting, di Jakarta, Senin (25/2).
Kalah di bisnis perangkat keras (hardware), lanjut Jeffrey, BlackBerry menyelesaikannya dengan “menggadaikan” lisensi merek serta memperkuat lini perangkat lunak (software)-nya.
“Akuisisi terhadap Cylance menjadi bukti nyata bahwa BlackBerry mampu bertahan di tengah ketatnya persaingan,” ungkap Jeffrey kepada TechnoBusiness Indonesia.●
