Larang Iklan Bitcoin, tapi Facebook Luncurkan Produk Serupa
Facebook memperkenalkan mata uang kripto miliknya sendiri bernama Libra—dan akan diluncurkan tahun depan.
California, TechnoBusiness ● Masih ingat dengan kebijakan Facebook Inc. (Nasdaq: FB), jejaring sosial terbesar sejagat, yang menolak iklan mata uang digital (cryptocurrency), termasuk Bitcoin, pada akhir Januari tahun lalu?
Facebook menganggap mata uang kripto tak bisa dipercaya dan iklan-iklan yang menayangkan apa pun terkait hal itu dianggap menyesatkan. Tapi, itu dulu.

Selama setahun lebih, alih-alih tetap berpegang pada dalih melindungi pengguna agar tak terjerumus iming-iming kripto, secara diam-diam Facebook justru mengembangkan mata uang serupa.
Kejelasan itu diungkapkan Facebook hari ini, ditandai dengan pembentukan Libra Association yang melibatkan 27 perusahaan di seluruh dunia.
Selain Libra Association, Facebook juga mendirikan anak perusahaan bernama Calibra. Calibra bertugas menjadi dompet digital yang menyediakan layanan keuangan terkait Libra.

Calibra akan tersedia di jaringan produk Facebook Group, antara lain Messenger dan WhatsApp, pada 2020. Facebook beralasan hampir setengah orang dewasa di dunia belum memiliki rekening bank.
Tidak hanya itu, 70% usaha kecil di negara-negara berkembang tak mempunyai akses ke penyedia kredit, US$25 miliar hilang dari imigran setiap tahun hanya untuk biaya pengiriman uang antarnegara.
“Ini adalah tantangan yang kami harapkan dapat diatasi dengan Calibra, dompet digital baru yang dapat Anda gunakan untuk menyimpan, mengirim, dan menghabiskan Libra,” ungkap Mark Zuckerberg, pendiri sekaligus CEO Facebook, di laman Facebook-nya hari ini.

Zuckerberg menyatakan banyak perusahaan lain, termasuk di antaranya Mastercard, PayPal, PayU, Stripe, Visa, eBay, Lyft, Spotify, dan Uber, akan membangun layanan mereka sendiri menggunakan Libra.
“Sejak awal Calibra akan memungkinkan Anda mengirim Libra ke hampir semua orang lewat ponsel pintar, semudah dan seketika Anda mengirim pesan teks, bahkan tanpa biaya,” lanjut Zuckerberg.
Tak berbeda dengan Bitcoin, Libra dibangun di atas teknologi blockchain. “Semua ini dibangun di atas teknologi blockchain,” kata dia. “Ini terdesentralisasi.”●
